百姓给它起了个名在西安市钟楼东南角,过去有一家钟楼食品店,它创建于1903年,其前身是从无锡迁来的上海酱园,文革后才改名为钟楼食品店,也算得上是老字号了。大约从70年代起,钟楼食品店开始出产一种大小如冰棍、但味道堪与冰淇淋相媲美的冷饮小食品,称之为小奶糕。小奶糕因奶味浓郁、价格低廉而受到西安市民的喜爱,几十年来一直畅销不衰。因出自钟楼食品店,人们就简称它为“钟楼小奶糕”。
