Years of currency reform The early years of the Republic of China, although after the Revolution of 1911, China’s currency is still very chaotic. At that time, there were silver, silver, copper and banknotes circulating in society. Due to the wide variety of currencies, different market prices, and messy measurement standards, it has brought tremendous difficulties to market exchange and directly affects the people’s livelihood and economic development. Even the warlord Yuan Shikai felt the serious flaws brought by the chaotic currency in China. Particularly seriously, when the world silver price plummeted at that time, the price of silver dropped more than half of the value in the early 20th century. However, China made a large amount of indemnities, borrowings and trade to the bank for its use of silver. The loss caused by the decline in the price of silver was very alarming. Due to the above factors, Yuan Shikai government promulgated the currency reform. In the course of several years of reform, Yuan Shikai unified the silver dollar, sorted out banknotes, and carried out a certain degree of reform on the monetary standard.
