从艺历程1963年毕业于上海戏剧学院表演系,魏宗万是一名演技派演员,他的外貌不佳,但是颇具有喜剧气质。早年他经常在影视剧中扮演反面角色。1982年,魏宗万出演了《一个和八个》,饰演朴实的老兵。又在《海滩》中饰演角色。1986年在电视剧《湘西剿匪记》中他扮演一名土匪,给观众留下了深刻的印象。1989年评为国家一级演员。1990年获第一届全国话剧优秀演员奖、第一届上海戏剧小品大赛大奖。1991年《三国演义》中出演司马懿,收到广泛好评。1992年,魏宗万在《三毛从军记》中饰演一名很“坏”的老兵,处处刁难小兵三毛,他夸张的表演,引来观众阵阵笑声,也使他充分地显示了喜剧天才。1993年因其该电影中的出色表演,获电影金鸡奖最佳男配角奖。以后魏宗万继续发挥这种喜剧天赋。1994年在影片《绝境逢生》中饰演一名抗战中普通的百姓,他继续以夸张的言行展现人物的性格,受到观众的好评。1997年《水浒传》饰高俅,给观众留下了深刻印象。
