《说文》记录了仁字的三种写法:仁、■(忎)、■(或从尸),郭店简中仁字写作(?)。身、人、千、尸都与“人”有关。通过对郭店简中从“心”之字的字例分析可知,“心”符只是表示一个宽泛的意义类别,即与思维、情感、态度等等人心的品性和活动有关,(?)的核心部分是“身”(实即“人”)。“仁”字的“二”符可能是“心”的简省符“=”或者分化字用以与原字相区别的分化符“=”讹变而成的,后世立足于“从人二”对仁字所作的人际关系层面的解释,未能反映仁字原初的观念和构形。仁字的诸种写法都以“人”为核心部分,是从“人”字脱胎而来的,表达了“人之所以为人”这一观念。
