本文从板栗胚胎发育方面研究板栗空篷的原因和找出有效控制空篷发生的方法。经显微制片观察:板栗空篷树的雌性器官发育正常,胚囊母细胞减数分裂后能发育成为有效八核胚囊,受粉受精作用顺利通过。产生空篷是由于在双受精作用完成、初生胚乳细胞分裂一圈游离核以后,不再继续分裂;合子(受精卵)发育所需有机物质未能从胚乳细胞中得到,因此合子不能发育成胚,造成空篷现象。试验表明:胚囊发育时期供给外源营养元素能有效的控制空篷的发生。
