Much research has been done on the effects of different irrigation rates on the growth, development and yield of fruit trees. Veihmeyer (1972) studied the effects of higher soil moisture on the growth and fruiting of apples and compared them with the lower soil moisture. In the 10-21 years of trials with plum, peach and apricot, significant differences in yield, fruit and trunk growth were observed compared to extreme irrigation treatments. Powell (1974, 1976) studied the effect of water stress (drought) on the growth and development of apple tree in apple trees by introducing three soil moisture contents in different stages of growing season. He found different soil moisture levels in the early stages of growth and shoot growth in the statistics
