There are 1 450 0 EMU vehicles operating on the Russian Railways, of which about 60 0 0 are in the process of being repaired or scrapped because these vehicles have been traveling for 28 years, exceeding their useful life. Dümroff Machine Works (ДМ 3), in cooperation with Torzhok Vehicle Manufacturers, plans to build 450 electric car fleet units by the year 2000.
