有这么一个故事,大意是说在一个监狱里,一名患有哮喘病的囚犯因难以忍受狱友吸烟的习惯而数次要求换囚室,但一直没得到应允。他在那里几乎无法呼吸,非常痛苦。一名妇女知道这件事后想帮助他,就打电话给一家报社的编辑,问他是否可以写点什么。那位编辑回答:“等那人死时再给我打电话。”--你可以谴责这位编辑的良知,但这就是他的新闻观:新闻是需要讲述故事的。在那位编辑看来,可怜囚犯如果不被折磨致死,恐怕还够不上一个故事。对于市场化的媒体来说,有冲击力的故事就是卖点,而卖点意味着发行量(收视率)、广告、利润。
There is a story to the effect that prisoners with asthma in a prison repeatedly request a cell changer because they can not tolerate the habit of smoking a jailman but have not been able to do so. He was almost unable to breathe there, very painful. When a woman wants to help him after knowing the incident, she calls the editor of a newspaper and asks if he can write something. The editor replies, “Wait for the other person to call me when he dies.” - You can blame the editor for his conscience, but that’s his story: news is storytelling. In that editor’s view, poor prisoners, if not tortured to death, may not be enough for a story. For the market-oriented media, the impact of the story is selling point, and selling means circulation (ratings), advertising, profits.
