元代在实现了空前的政治大一统之后,重视邮驿系统的建设。经过滇川黔相邻地区的重要交通线有效数量多、使用频率较高,其中自中庆(治今昆明)经过贵州东出湖南的“入湖广道”的开通,并成为西南地区联系中原内地的首选国家驿道,是元代西南地区交通事业建设取得的最重要的成就。这一变化,是多种因素作用的结果,并对西南边疆地区社会历史发展产生了广泛而深远的影响。
