Objective To investigate the relationship between ascending aortic elasticity and stenosis of coronary artery in patients with essential hypertension (EH). Methods A total of 107 patients with EH underwent coronary angiography. The patients were divided into two groups according to their coronary heart disease: group A with hypertension (group A, n = 56) and group with hypertension without coronary heart disease (group B, n = 51). Doppler tissue imaging Aortic elasticity, and Leaman coronary artery disease score for the correlation analysis. Results The velocity of ascending aortic dilatation and ascending S wave of the ascending aorta in group A were significantly lower than those in non - coronary heart disease group (P <0.01), and negatively correlated with Leaman ’s coronary artery disease score. The ascending aortic stiffness index in group A was significantly higher than that in non-coronary heart disease group (P <0.01), and positively correlated with Leaman’s coronary artery disease score. Conclusions Elastic function of the ascending aorta may be one of the important predictors of the severity of coronary artery disease.
