For nearly 10 years, considerable progress has been made in the research on the development of neural and visual function of Omega - 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in premature infants. Randomized clinical trials of premature children on the development of this area made a more detailed description. It was found that the addition of Omega - 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids was beneficial to the development of neurological and visual function in preterm infants. However, it was also found to have some side effects on the growth and development of premature infants. However, the addition of AA reduced the adverse effects. Certain confounding factors such as injection of maternal corticosteroids in preterm infants may influence the outcome of the study. We also need more research to track and assess the long-term prognosis of infants and young children before promoting Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in their diet.
