每种语言都存在同义现象,但绝对同义关系几乎不存在。故此,同义词之间的相互替换,往往会改变话语的表达意义。本文在词语搭配理论框架下探讨汉英翻译中的同义现象。通过抽样调查政府白皮书英译本中的三对同义词,笔者发现:白皮书英译本中存在着大量的同义误配现象,轻者造成了语义怪异,重者产生了与作者本意完全不同、甚至相反的意义。
Synonyms exist in every language, but there is almost no absolute synonymy. Therefore, the replacement of synonyms can often change the meaning of discourse. This article explores the phenomenon of synonymism in Chinese-English translation in the framework of collocation theory. By sampling and surveying three pairs of synonyms in the government white paper, I found that there are a large number of phenomena of synonymous mismatch in the English translation of the white paper. The light person creates the semantic weirdness, and the heavy person produces completely different from the original intention of the author or even the opposite significance.
