On February 7, a report released by the Italian Association of Small and Medium Farmers said that counterfeit Italian food caused an annual loss of 60 billion euros to the country. The report pointed out that the Italian cottage market is currently sold in the Italian market every year, totaling about 1.1 billion euros, but some of these products have a huge impact on the reputation of the Italian food. Nowadays, food piracy in the world is increasing rapidly, and this situation has affected the famous brand-name foods in Italy, which not only causes economic losses but also damages the image of Italy. The association called for a clear understanding of the situation at the level of Italy and the European Union by including a strict rule of thumb on all product labels. Although this is stated in Italian law, it has not been well implemented so far.
