In the Soviet Union, although the discipline of journalism itself does not have such a degree as a journalism doctor or associate doctor, scholars engaged in journalism research can obtain doctoral and associate doctoral degrees in linguistics, history and philosophy. Journalism studies in the Soviet Union are mainly concentrated in the journalism departments of various universities, of which the journalism department at Moscow State University is the most important. The department publishes the academic journal (Bimonthly) of the Journal of the Moscow University (category 10: Journalism) and publishes the research results of the faculty and students. Of the 12 members of this editorial board, there are eight professors and four associate professors.
