木糖醇能代替糖吗

木糖醇是一种天然甜味剂,很多水果与蔬菜中亦含有它。木糖醇甜度与蔗糖相似,常温下为白色粉状结晶。本世纪60年代,研究人员发现玉米芯、花生壳、甘蔗渣、棉子壳、桦木等植物中含有木糖醇,于是开始提取木糖醇。到了70年代,木糖醇已成为糖尿病人的营养剂与治疗剂。目前,很多食品厂也用它代糖制做口香糖,木糖醇奶糖、木糖醇巧克力等;牙膏厂将其作为甜味剂加入牙膏中,可有效地减少龋齿的发生。
