1935年冬天,我从上海到南京拜访徐悲鸿先生。徐先生当时热情地介绍我去看吴作人先生,这是我第一次和吴先生认识的经过。详细点说:我那时受上海大众出版社总编梁得所之命,打算出一套当代画家小丛书,到南京是去组稿的,我那时23岁,是大众出版社的编辑。吴作人比我大五六岁,他20岁就加入田汉先生领导的南国社的文艺活动。1935年他还不到30岁,已经留欧归来,在中央大学艺术系任教了。
In the winter of 1935, I visited Mr. Xu Beihong from Shanghai to Nanjing. Mr. Xu was warmly introduced to see Mr. Wu Zuoren, this is the first time I met Mr. Wu. He was less than 30 years old in 1935 and has returned to Europe to teach at the Central University Department of Art.
