Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) is a transcriptional regulator that is very important in many hypoxic conditions and plays a key role in hypoxia tolerance. It is necessary to establish a related hypoxia model for the study of HIF and hypoxia tolerance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the value of Daphnia as an animal model in hypoxia. By establishing a hypoxic preconditioning model for Daphnia, we found that hypoxia pretreatment at two time periods significantly increased the hypoxia tolerance of Daphnia Sex, and its tolerance is associated with HIF. By comparative genomics analysis of homology of HIF genes in Daphnia, Drosophila and humans, Daphnia was found to be suitable as a model animal for the study of hypoxic injury in humans.
