建造“宙斯盾”导弹驱逐舰,建立战略机动舰队!这是近年来韩国政府和军方一直在努力奋斗的目标。2004年11月11日,韩国现代重工集团下属的特种和海军舰船分部正式开工建造KDX-3级“宙斯盾”导弹驱逐舰的首制舰,拉开了实现上述宏大目标的序幕。韩国国防部同时透露,韩国计划在2012年前投资31361韩元(约合31亿美元)建造3艘标准排水量为70000吨的KDX-3级导弹驱逐舰,首制舰定于2008年底前装备海军,2号和3号舰预计分别在2010年和2012年完成实战部署。根据既定发展计划,届时韩国海军将以KDX-3级“宙斯盾”导弹驱逐舰为中坚力量,组建可进出1000海里海域并完成各种作战任务的“六六”舰队。
