Objective To study the relationship between the first permanent molar dysfunction and temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and its pathogenesis, and to provide an epidemiological evidence for preventing the first permanent molar disease and reducing the incidence of TMD. Methods Taking 2010 college entrance examiners in Longgang District of Shenzhen City as the research object, the first permanent molars were examined for the carious lesions and the epidemiological study was conducted according to the TMD clinical diagnostic criteria. The relationship between the severe lesions of the first molars and the incidence of TMD was analyzed. Results The first molars’ dysfunction was 11.85%, the positive rate of TMD was 36.33%, the positive rate of TMD was 19.22% in the tested population, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.001). The first molars dysfunction Of the tested patients TMD positive rate is much higher than normal function. Conclusions The incidence of TMD in first molar patients is higher than that in first molar group, and the susceptible population needs protection.
