1992年12月13日，我陪埃及文学翻译家阿齐兹博士到北京医院探视曹禺先生。阿齐兹博士把自己的新译著《北京人》送给了曹禺先生，并向曹禺先生提了一些问题。曹禺先生那天精神很好，兴致勃勃地一一回答了阿齐兹博士的问题，还对不少文学问题，畅谈了他自己的看法。据说，这是曹禺先生逝世前的一次最重要、最难得的谈话，对曹禺及其作品的研究、对一些文艺创作的研究，都是很有教益的。为了纪念戏剧艺术大师曹禺先生九十华诞。我根据录音记录稿，将曹禺先生这次谈话如实整理出来。除了曹禺夫人李玉茹女士为了让曹禺先生听清楚阿齐滋博士的话而加以重复的语句删掉外，一律照原话笔录下来。阿齐兹博士因翻译曹禺先生的剧作《日出》而享誉阿拉伯文学界。1988年，在曹禺先生住院前，我和阿齐兹博士曾到曹禺先生家去拜访过他，因此，曹禺先生和阿齐兹博士已经相识，并结为异国文友。
On December 13, 1992, I accompanied Dr. Aziz, an Egyptian literary translator, to visit Beijing Hospital and visit Mr. Cao Yu. Dr. Aziz gave his new Beijing translation to Mr. Cao Yu and asked Mr. Cao Yu some questions. Mr. Cao Yu had a good spirits that day, spiritedly answered Dr. Aziz’s questions and talked a lot about his literary issues. It is said that this is one of the most important and rare conversations before Mr. Cao Yu’s death. It is very helpful to study Cao Yu and his works and to some literary and artistic creations. To commemorate the 90th anniversary of Mr. Cao Yu masters of drama. According to the recording manuscript, I made a correct arrangement of this talk by Mr. Cao Yu. Except that Mrs. Li Yuru, Mrs. Cao Yu, deleted all the sentences that were repeated for Mr. Cao Yu’s listening to Dr. Aziz’s words, it will be recorded according to the original words. Dr. Aziz is known for his literary translation of Mr. Cao Yu’s “Sunrise”. In 1988, before Mr. Cao Yu was hospitalized, Dr. Aziz and I had visited Mr. Cao Yu’s home to visit him. Therefore, Mr. Cao Yu and Dr. Aziz met and became foreign friends.
