Understanding communicative differences in intercultural communication is of fundamental importance. However, misinterpretations into various cultures are ubiquitous in the world. In order to comprehend the communicative differences sys-tematically, this study applies the theory of high-context and low-context by Hall (1976) to illustrate these communicative differ-ences between China and America through analyzing specific episodes in the film of Gua Sha, the Treatment.
