The Hungarian economy has undergone a tortuous process. In the early days after the war, the national economy was restored and developed, but there was a serious imbalance of proportions. After 1956, Hungary gradually adjusted its economic policies. In 1968, it fully implemented the “new economic system.” In a long period of time, the economy has developed steadily and at a relatively fast pace. The average annual growth rate of national income in the first five years of the 1970s was 6.3%, ranking first among all countries in the HEC. In 1978, compared with the same period in 1960, the gross industrial output value increased by about 2.2-fold. The total agricultural output value increased by more than two thirds. The actual income of the people more than doubled. On the issue of economic development, Hungary has taken some actions that are not exactly the same as the rest of Eastern Europe and received relatively good results.
