Who is he?
Leon Xiao was born in an intellectual family of Nanchang in Jiangxi province. When he was two years old, his father became a member of the right communist party involuntarily and his mother supported the entire family with 39 yuan salary per month. His poor childhood made Leon Xiao more mature and he deeply understood his mother’s efforts.
In 1978, Leon Xiao was admitted to Beijing Normal University and in the summer of 1987, Leon went to United States for studies. He was first studied in the University of Louisville. He received his higher education management and computer master degrees both at the same time. He later received a Ph.D.Degree in philosophy of science major. Then he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Kentucky, specializing in mathematics. He only spent six months to finish the planned three-year project. His tutor said,"you should become a good mathematician!"
China’s first Academy Awards winner
In early 1996, Leon transferred his career into American film and television entertainment. He was the general engineer in Blue Sky Studios in the United States, and he was also part of core leaders as a technical director. He was the first Chinese expert in this company since it was established.
Leon Xiao served as a special effect producer in Titanic and Star Trek. The animation Bonnie which got the Academy Awards was done using the spotlighting methods, which at that time was an advanced way of lightning. It showed the audience a lively rabbit with various hair and delicate eyes.
Becoming a professor
He was invited by the president of Beijing Normal University Yuan Guiren to have a presentation, he said he hoped to create a digital media major in the school and he received confirmation and support for this idea.
In the next few years after that, he did lot of preparations to start this major. On one hand, he was working in New York University, on the other he was investing his time in all the related majors of digital media in the United States. In 2003, Beijing Normal University started to recruit digital media undergraduates.
Digital media major in Beijing Normal University has always insisted on small-class teaching, the recruit students every year is under 16 people, emphasizes the students according to their unique creativity and strong adaptability.
The score of the college entrance examination should be also high.High quality students and good teachers are equally important, it is to develop the basic guidelines that conform to the international requirements for high-end talents.
