For the first time in the second half of 1988, the Fensker diamond mine at De Beers, South Africa, had contacted Modular, which rejected the offer but agreed to conduct a feasibility study for the project. A study was submitted in mid-1989, which convinced the Finske Mine to develop a subsurface dispatch system using well-established techniques at that time. In 1990 the two sides signed a contract for the development of such a system. In May 1991, the system was put into operation. By the end of 1991, the scraper operated on both stages of the mine had been controlled through this system.
