Overview Youth assistants have been in the U.S. Congress for more than 175 years as messengers. Although youth assistants do not belong to any partisan group, they are often assigned to service their own partisanship. Currently, there are usually around 100 young men and women from all over the country who work as youth assistants in the National Assembly. As a rule, youth assistants must be sophomores and must be over 16 years of age. Former MPs, incumbent MPs and other VIPs have several youth assistants who have served in the National Assembly, such as from 1999 to 2007
