On October 8, 1979, Aviation Week published a speech titled “Urging More Research on Directional Energy.” Reported that the National Defense Science Council recommended the reorganization of a targeted energy technology research program to strengthen the development of high-energy lasers, charged particle beams and microwave technology for future U.S. weapons.
