Oncomelania quadrasi is an intermediate host of Schistosoma japonicum on the island of Bohol in the Philippines. It is an amphibious snail that requires soil for both feeding and spawning, so soil factors may influence its distribution. In order to investigate the soil conditions necessary for the survival of the snakefruit in Bohol Island, Philippines, and to elucidate the soil factors that affect its distribution and to explore the soil conditions in which snails are kept in large numbers in the laboratory, the authors analyzed 30 soil samples and used them for laboratory snail feeding.
