单北村原名叫单家集,是毛泽东主席率领中央红军长征时曾经住过的地方。单北人民继承和发扬“不到长城非好汉”的彻底革命精神,加强民族团结,以经济建设为中心,使两个文明建设走在了固原地区的前头,1992年又被自治区定为小康试点村。提及这些,人们交口称赞:“单北村有一只好领头雁。”1980年,有20年党龄的许文杰走马上任,担任村支部书记。一上任,正遇上家庭联产责任制的开始,他想道,要在群众中站稳脚跟,就不能有私心占便宜。于是,他分的地是群众挑过的;他分的牲畜是群众牵剩下的。有的干部说:“我们辛辛苦苦几十年,现在集体分光了,我们该考虑考虑自己吧?”许支书斩钉截铁地说:
