Affected by the strong earthquakes and the tsunami, Japan’s manufacturing purchasing managers’ index in March hit its largest decline in history, pushing up the market’s expectation that Japan’s economy will fall into recession again. As the two major manufacturing countries in the world, the industries of China and Japan are very complementary. The final stage of production and assembly of many Japanese brand products is in China. However, a considerable part of the key components are manufactured in Japan. The earthquake in Japan has immediate and medium- and long-term effects on the import and export trade between the two countries.
