图书馆作为文化事业的一个社会实体,其基本功能是保存和传递文献资料.“保存”指对文献的搜集、整理、加工、组织、管理等;“传递”指内阅、外借、复制、检索、咨询等对文献的各种利用.二者互相依存,形成一个有机整体,它反映了图书馆最基本的社会职能.而这种职能的完成离不开人的参与,即图书馆职员的工作.高等学校图书馆既是教学和科研的服务性组织,也是重要的学术性机构.它既要发挥情报信息的功能,又要发挥服务育人的功能.因此,对于从事这一职业的工作人员的职业道德就有特殊的要求,它是有效完成本职工作的重要保证.
