The general understanding of subclinical metastases is that cancer cells are disseminated and survive in various tissues, organs, blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic vessels, but no significant metastatic nodules have been formed. Clinically it is difficult to detect them by routine examination methods, and patients have no clinical symptoms. It can also be called a tiny cancer metastasis. About 1/3 of patients with colorectal cancer have liver metastases after undergoing radical surgery, which indicates that cancer cells have spread during the first diagnosis and treatment.
