In 2008, there will be a “Superlorry” truck on the road in the UK. The British government plans to introduce a giant truck to reduce carbon emissions and transport costs. This giant truck weighed 60 tons, the same weight as the British “Challenger 2” tank; it was more than 25 meters long and was 7.3 meters longer than a two-seater bus. Giant trucks consist of a trailer with two semitrailers and two giant trucks worth three truckloads. The maximum weight of a giant truck is 60 tons, while the maximum weight of a normal heavy truck is 44 tons: the load capacity of a giant truck is also 60% more than that of an ordinary heavy truck. A giant truck carries even more cars than a single container, the equivalent of a “train on the road.” This type of truck is ideal for transporting light and bulky goods, and several companies are actively contributing to the introduction of gigantic trucks.
