甜菜是甜菜制糖工业的的基础。甜菜制糖工业要取得较好的经济效益,在很大程度上取决于甜菜的产量和含糖率。而这一切与甜菜品种的种性和种子质量的优劣都有直接的关系。因此,当今世界甜菜主要生产国家都极为重视甜菜种子工作。内蒙古地区在解放后的三十多年来,党和政府在发展甜菜生产的同时,十分重视甜菜种子工作,使区的甜菜种子繁殖从无到有,从引进到自给有余。目前自治区的甜菜种子从科研到生产,从育种到繁殖都初具规模,从而大大地促进了内蒙古地区甜菜生产的发展,使内 Beets are the basis of beet sugar industry.
