OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of water-based dressings on the prevention of facial skin injury under non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV). Methods: Eighty-eight patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and type II respiratory failure treated with NIPPV were enrolled in this study. Fifty patients with water-based dressing as observation group and 38 patients without water-based dressing as The control group and the observation group were treated with NIPPV facial skin adhesive water dressing, while the control group did not use any dressing on the face under pressure. The damage of the facial skin under the facial mask pressure during the treatment was observed. Further divided into less than 5 days, 5 to 10 days and more than 10 days 3 time period observation. Results: The incidence and severity of facial skin injury in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group when treated with NIPPV. Conclusion: Hydrogel dressings can reduce the incidence and severity of facial skin lesions during NIPPV treatment. This method is worthy of clinical application.
