United States Army Operations Report No. 38, a study of national security issues issued by the Army Research Laboratory for the Army of the United States Army (AUSA) in September 2001. Edward B. Atkinson, the retired Major General of the United States Army, is currently a senior fellow at the American Army Academy and the Center for American Strategic and International Studies. While serving in active service, he served as deputy director of the Army intelligence service in Europe and the United States and later became a member of the National Intelligence Committee, led by the CIA. He worked for the Political and Military Affairs Department of the U.S. State Department. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy, a master’s degree in business administration from Syracuse University, and a doctorate from Luton University in the United Kingdom. He trained at the Army General Staff College and the U.S. Army Operations Academy and was a research fellow at the Harvard Center for International Affairs from 1973 to 1974. Major Artkasen has published more than 100 papers in various journals and his major publications include: “The Last Arguments of Kings: Reflections on the Art of War” (1988); “Military Situation Assessment of the Middle East 1991-1996” (1992); “Gunpowder Barrels - An Intelligence Officer’s Introduction of Military Forces in the Middle East 1996-2000” (1996); The Story of Three Wars (1997). The original title of the article, “The People’s Liberation Army that is Unimaginable,” is a representative study by Chinese military experts with a background of the U.S. Army in recent years. It reflects to some extent the fact that some military strategists with military backgrounds in the United States, in recent years, Our Army Positions and Views on the Modernization of National Defense.
