Scientists have known chronic inflammation of the prostate is one of the risk factors for high-grade prostate cancer, but they are not sure exactly how chronic inflammation can lead to cancer. Researchers from the United States UCLA have discovered two different types of cells, basal cells and luminal cells, representing potential progenitor cells capable of initiating prostate cancer. Researchers at Johns Hopkins Medical Center further observed that prostate cells near the inflammatory area differ microscopically from normal prostate cells and that their genes are expressed differently. Researchers have assumed that these cells proliferate More likely than non-inflammatory areas
