室内设计作为新兴的一个设计领域,同其它姊妹艺术一样,目前同样面临着如何继承与创新的问题.室内设计和其它艺术所不同的是,它不仅要求设计师在设计思想观念、设计形式、风格上不断创新,同时伴随着人类社会的发展,科学技术的进步,新材料、新工艺的不断出现,从本质上讲,也推动了室内设计的发展.正因如此,室内设计从无到有,发展到现代多种设计手法和流派的产生,都证明了室内设计经历了由传统到现代的演变过程.我国正式兴办室内设计这门学科,历史较短,在设计理论,工艺技术,以及材料方面的发展与运用,都处在初级阶段,所设计出的作品,绝大部分停留在摹仿上.但随着我国科学技术的发展,人们审美能力的提高,这种现状决不应该成为我国今后室内设计发展的主流,那么如何发展我国的室内设计呢?笔者认为:只有在继承和发展传统的基础上,才能使我国的室内设计屹立于世界之林,创造出具有中国特色的优秀设计作品.
