無錫縣有師範学校一所,中学二十四所(完全中学一所,初級中学二十三所),初中補習班八所,小学中心輔導區六十二个,学校七二四所(完小三一五所)。總的教育事業規模較大,具体学校規模則較小,基礎一般較差,而且全部处於農村,相当分散,幹部的數量及質量均不足,情况較为複雜。縣教育科有幹部十一人,區有文教助理員十三人。在上級政府和党委的正確領導下,我們对学校教育工作的領導,除通过会議及文件外,还進行了經常的教育視察工作。一工作情况我們自一九五一年起,即对中、小学進行有計劃有組織的視察,四年來由縣組織、領導視察中学七次、视察小学三次,由區組織、領導分區進行视察小学四次。全縣各中学經我們視察的,最多有七次,一般有
