In 1984, cotton production in Hebei opened a historical record. In recent years, the general trend of cotton production decline has not been reversed, and the contradiction between supply and demand remains tight. In 1984, the cotton planting area was 1047kha and the total lint yield was 1050kt. However, during 1985-1989 throughout the Seventh Five-Year Plan period, the average cotton area was 837.8kha and the lint output was 575.9kt, 19.97% and 94.5% less than that of 1984 respectively.
