Quanzhou Nanyin is one of five projects declared by the Ministry of Culture to UNESCO by UNESCO in 2005 as the “Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humankind.” As the “living fossil” of Huaxia traditional music and the reputation as “a live music history”, its traditional mission of protection and inheritance is very serious. Based on this, Quanzhou Normal University College of Art opened its undergraduate major in Musicology (Nanyin direction) in the fall of 2003 and pioneered the precedent of setting professional specialty of music colleges in our country with folk music as the inheritance, protection and development of our country’s traditional music. To train primary and secondary Nanyin teachers, South sound successors took a gratifying first step.
