This article describes a vacuum system for a HDZ-6 Medium Voltage Low Vacuum Electron Beam Welding Machine that gives an approximate calculation of the pressure differential between the gun chamber and the welding chamber. Calculations and tests show that a gas-drag tube with a φ3-mm diaphragm is installed between the gun chamber and the welding chamber to ensure that the pressure difference between the gun chamber and the welding chamber is more than two orders of magnitude. The welder can work stably in the pressure range of 8 × 10 -2 torr to 1 × 10 -2 torr.
