海口市车管所现有工作人员55名,承担着海口市7万多辆机动车和22万驾驶员的日常管理业务。作为海口市公安局交警支队一个主要对外窗口,自1995年以来,海口车管所结合全国开展“学济南交警”活动,认真贯彻江泽民总书记“严格执法,热情服务”和李鹏总理“向科技要警力”的指示精神,大力加强社会主义精神文明建设,强化服务意识,以全心全意为人民服务为宗旨,向社会推出文明办公、限时服务的服务承诺制度,使几年前被新闻曝光的“难人所”变为现在的“便民所”,受到了各级领导和广大群众的一致好评,1996年,海口车管所被公安部列为全国55个文明示范窗口之一,同时也被评为全国六个优秀车管所之一。
