“前五四”,是相对于具有完全现代意义的“五四”而言的,它并非时间上的界定,而是一个表明文学行进过程中,区别于其它阶段文学性质的概念。于中国近代诗歌转型来说,指的是“五四”之前中国诗歌由传统形态转换为现代形态的质变期。“前五四”这一概念的确立,对于考察中国近代诗歌转型具有重要的意义,在这一时期,出现了标志着其转型最终完成的鲁迅诗学观和胡适早期白话诗。
“The first five or four years” is relative to the “May 4th Movement” with complete modern significance. It is not a definition of time but a concept that shows the nature of the literature as distinguished from other phases in the process of literature. In the transformation of modern Chinese poetry, it refers to the qualitative transformation of Chinese poetry from traditional form to modern form before the May 4th Movement. The establishment of the concept of “the first 54” is of great significance for examining the transformation of modern Chinese poetry. During this period, Lu Xun’s poetics and his early vernacular poems, which marked the final completion of the transition, emerged.
