葡萄叶片是光合作用的主要器官。与其它果树一样,葡萄光合面积即绿色面积,多以叶面积计算,通常用叶面积系数来表示田间和群体叶量状况。叶片的大小可作为葡萄树生长状况的重要指标。利用叶面积指数则可用来衡量葡萄群体结构是否合理,是丰产栽培的重要参数。测定叶面积常用的方法有求积仪法,方格法,叶模法,剪纸称重法以及光电求积仪法等。这些方法各有特点和缺点,如有的精确度较高,但叶片离体才能测定;有的手续麻烦,且需一定的仪器设备,仅能用于小样本测定,不适用于在葡萄上进行叶面积
