Located on the south bank of Huangpu River and west of Nanpu Bridge, Shanghai Port Machinery Factory is an old factory founded in 1885, formerly known as “Mao-Mao Machine Dockyard.” In 1960, according to the spirit of “Strengthening China’s Port Construction Proposal” at the Second National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Communications changed this small shipbuilding factory into the first port machinery factory in China. However, in the era of planned economy, it was only a mere unit of product implementation at the higher level.
