从临床治疗观点出发,隐睾可分为能摸得到的隐睾和摸不到的睾丸(non-palpable testis)两大类。能摸得到的隐睾行睾丸固定术效果良好者85％。但对摸不到的睾丸提出了不同的临床问题。1976年美国小儿外科学会与泌尿外科学会对此曾专题讨论。睾丸在腹股沟管内或腹腔内和从没有经腹股沟外环出现过的便称为摸不到的睾丸。或最简单的定义是检查者摸不到患者的睾丸。
