莆田,位于福建沿海中部,自古就有“文献名邦、海滨邹鲁”的美称,莆田人创造了科甲冠八闽的奇迹,举进士者多达2400多名,全国级文武状元22名、宰相1 5名、尚书近70名。而今,莆田以出产木雕艺术家著称,李凤荣就是其中典型的一位。2006年,李凤荣被联合国教科文国际民间艺术组织授予“国际民间工艺美术大师”称号。这是李凤荣的荣誉,也是中国木雕界的荣誉,对历来不被看重的中国木雕艺术也非同寻常。莆田的工艺美术渊源流长,最早可上溯
