Atherosclerosis (AS) is the main pathological basis of ischemic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, environmental and genetic factors can promote the formation and development of AS, more and more studies have shown that chronic stress for AS formation plays a key role. Chronic stress promotes AS formation by over-activation of the sympathetic nervous system, the renin-angiotensin system and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and is associated with Toll-like receptors, tumor necrosis factor α, interleukin -6, adiponectin and other factors are closely linked. Rodents such as Apo E - / - mice, SD rats and Wistar rats are still the main models in the study of chronic stress and AS development. Although the study of primate models is more clinically significant, Due to its cost, quantity and other factors limit the widespread use. This article mainly reviews the research on animal model of chronic stress and AS, and the related mechanism of chronic stress promoting the development of AS.
