This article reports on a surveillance system for dengue haemorrhagic fever based on virological and clinical observations in Indonesia. The system, which uses mosquito inoculation as a virus isolate, is simple and economical, making it ideal for endemic areas with limited equipment. The information in this article states that as long as the hospital works closely with the virus laboratory, new serotypes and even new possible strains of virulence will be detected before they cause epidemics. This virological monitoring may be a means of preventing a dengue pandemic.
