高鼻羚羊(Saiga tartarica)不仅肉质好,毛皮也很有用。每年苏联出口几十万对羚羊角,卖给中国作药用。羚羊是很有价值的猎物。过去,这种动物分布很广。在16～18世纪,西至欧洲中部的喀尔巴阡山脉脚下,东至蒙古及中国西部所有的干旷草原和半沙漠地带,北到基辅及西伯利亚巴拉巴草原。据称当时在哈萨克以及沿伏尔加及乌拉尔河下游的干旷草原都有数不清的羚羊。
